President Hakainde Hichilema has commended the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) for championing engineering solutions to combat climate change. Speaking in a video address during the 67th Engineering Institution of Zambia Annual General Meeting and Symposium in Livingstone, Mr. Hichilema said Zambia like the rest of the world has been confronted with the challenges of climate change. “We are happy to hear that you will be presenting an actionable paper on engineering solutions to the impact caused by climate change,” he said. The President said with the rapid increase in the infrastructure development and an increase in the Constituency Development Fund, the country needs expertise of the engineering professionals to be brought to the fore. “We therefore call upon the Engineering Institution of Zambia to ensure that Contractors who have been engaged to undertake engineering projects are monitored to ensure that there is professionalism and projects stand the test of time,” he said. He said all engineering works delivered must be of acceptable standards for the benefits of the Zambian people and the economy. He further commended the EIZ for the strides made to get accredited to the International Engineering Alliance.
