CALL FOR APPLICATION: EIZ ENGINEERING FUNDING
The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is pleased to invite applications from its members for support under the EIZ Engineering Fund. The Fund is established to promote engineering excellence, professional development, innovation, research, and projects that contribute to national development and the advancement of the engineering profession in Zambia.
Eligible Applicants
Applications are open to fully registered EIZ members in good standing, including:
- Engineers
- Technologists
- Technicians
- Craftspersons
- Student members (where applicable)
Priority Areas for Funding
The Engineering Fund will support proposals in the following categories:
- Engineering research and innovation
- Professional development and capacity-building activities
- Community or industry-based engineering projects
- Engineering education initiatives
- Technical publications, prototypes, and innovation showcases
- Other activities aligned with EIZ’s mandate to advance engineering practice
Thematic Areas for Proposals
We invite proposals for projects that offer practical, engineering-focused solutions in the following thematic areas. Proposals must clearly demonstrate their relevance to a specific challenge in Zambia and their potential for local implementation.
1. Renewable Energy Systems & Energy Efficiency
- Development of small-scale, decentralized renewable energy systems (solar, wind, etc.) for off-grid communities.
- Engineering innovations in biomass and biogas production from agricultural waste or other local resources.
- Design and implementation of energy-efficient solutions for agriculture, industry, or residential use.
2. Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience
- Engineering solutions for water management, including innovative irrigation techniques, rainwater harvesting, and water purification systems.
- Development of climate-resilient infrastructure (e.g., roads, bridges, and housing) tailored to withstand extreme weather events.
3. Solid Waste Management and Circular Economy
- Prototypes for waste-to-energy solutions, such as small-scale biogas plants powered by organic waste.
- Design of efficient and low-cost systems for waste collection, sorting, and recycling, particularly for urban and peri-urban environments.
- AI-aided solutions for monitoring waste accumulation, optimizing collection routes, or facilitating waste segregation.
4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Sustainable Development
- AI-driven models for climate risk assessment, predictive analytics for agricultural yields, or early warning systems for natural disasters.
- Development of AI-powered systems to monitor energy consumption, optimize grid performance, or improve the efficiency of renewable energy generation.
Application Requirements
Interested members must submit:
- A formal application letter addressed to the Registrar, EIZ
- A detailed project or activity proposal
- A work plan and timeline
- A budget and financial justification
- Proof of current EIZ membership and good standing
- Any additional supporting documentation relevant to the application
